In a country where the vast majority of people live near the coast, it’s comforting to know we can share that environment with one of our biggest and most majestic birds of prey, the White-bellied Sea-Eagle. Add to that the obsession we have with sport and its fitting that the most famous pair of eagles in Australia reside in Sydney’s Olympic Park, nesting high in a Scribbly Gum in the Newington Nature Reserve and feeding in the Parramatta River.
Sydney's Sea Eagles LIVE!
Ustream will play an advert for about 10s, after which you can watch as long as you like and click the rectangle to view full screen!
The nest has been used by a succession of Sea-Eagles over the years and by this pair since 2008. So in 2009, before the breeding season began, volunteers from the Birds Australia Discovery Centre and Sydney Olympic Park: Geoff Hutchinson, Jon Irvine and Judy Harrington, set about planning the installation of a camera high over the eagles’ nest tree. This was to provide some of the first insights into the behaviour of a bird that is quite commonly sighted all around Australia’s coastline.
The new high definition camera is certain to provide a thrill for visitors to the BASNA (Birds Australia New South Wales and ACT) visitor centre at Sydney Olympic Park, open at weekends from 10am until 4pm, where they can also meet the volunteers and learn more about the work that is being done for these amazing birds. Geoff Hutchinson says “each year the nest has been monitored and valuable observations made”.

The sea-eagles’ regular flight path is over The Waterfront and Mariners Cove to go fishing in Homebush Bay. They are also often seen during the day on a prominent mangrove perch, loafing or feeding on a mullet or other fish from the wetlands or soaring overhead on up-swept wings.
The Birds Australia Discovery Centre is open at weekends from 10am until 4pm and is situated inside the Newington Armory grounds at Sydney Olympic Park. Access by road is from Jamieson Street where there is a car park at the armory wharf alongside Parramatta River. The entrance to the armory is through the main gates next to the wharf cranes. The Discovery Centre is situated on the left hand side of the main pathway into the armory, an approximate 500m walk from the wharf.

May I be the first to say congratulations to the proud parents and the wonderful people bringing us the pictures. We have just become grandparents again. lol

No chat, just the downloading, everlasting, rotating circle thingy. Is there software that needs to installed in order for the chat to work?
Dave,
The Ustream vision doesn’t appear to work on some versions of Internet Explorer. Ustream is a +$100 million US company – go figure! You may try another browser (Google Chrome is the best one on the market right now). The other thing to always try, is a hard reset of your browser. Literally close down the whole browser and re-open it, then try accessing the page again. Sometimes, if your internet connection goes down for a second on loading, it can save (‘cache’) a copy that won’t load.
So perhaps try the latter first, then if that fails, install Google Chrome.
Drop me a line if you continue to have other problems.
I am trying to log on to the blog. So far I have been unsuccessful.
