What is Bird-O?

Watching rare Painted Snipe near Melbourne

Bird-O is a website about birds and birding in Australia. Our mission is to make birding more accessible to all who live in or visit Australia. Bird-O has interesting and informative writing by well known journalists, access to listings about the country’s best bird and wildlife experiences and is a place for birders to share their own knowledge and passion, to protect our unique wildlife.

Bird-O (http://bird-o.com) has articles about birds in art, culture and music, pages about where to see birds and how to identify them, and information on current bird conservation. It’s written by a collective of writers, who are passionate about birds and devoted to sharing quirky and personal insights, in articles, videos and podcasts.

Bird-O has a more serious ambition. Our politicians say we have to ‘choose’ between conservation and development. What if we resign one species to extinction, what about the next … and the next? When will it end? What choice do we really have? We’re also told there aren’t enough Australians interested in birds to make a difference. Everyone we meet loves birds … so we don’t believe this.

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN HELP

Simply send this to anyone you know, who you think cares about birds and may be interested in occasionally reading Bird-O. Bird-O’s philosophy is to ignite interest via the fundamental beauty and importance of birds to Australian people. The more we can find to register their shared interest, the more we can disprove the myth that Australians don’t care about nature. So join us today and spread the word …

We go out of our way to support bird and wildlife-related tourism and business, because we believe the people who run these businesses have a great deal to offer.
