Tasmania is famed for its modern art, Wooden ship-building, gourmet cuisine, fine wines, unique wildlife and landscapes.
This exceptional tour has you seeing endangered animals on Bruny Island, taking fast-boat rides to see albatrosses alongside some of the highest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere. Back on the mainland, you’ll visit the world-famous MONA gallery, take a flight and boat ride into the World Heritage area, which is one of the least accessible and remote destinations on Earth.
You’ll spend a day learning about and seeing wooden ship-building in one of the world’s last working waterfronts. You’ll dine on local salmon and climb high above an ancient forest over one of the state’s remaining wild rivers. Heading north, you’ll head into one of the region’s many limestone caves to see glow-worms then, depending on your taste, either visit a spa in Cradle Mountain, or remote log-cabins.
In the latter, you’ll have wild Tasmanian Devils and Quolls visit your verandah at night. Your trip finishes with a scenic drive through the beautiful Tamar wetlands to visit wineries before your journey home.

Day 1 Your journey starts in Hobart where you’ll stay in the famous Salamanca district, a short walk from constitution dock. Overnight at the Salamanca Inn. Dinner options include the famous Ball and Chain restaurant or Smolt, for local oysters, wine and other fair.
Day 2 The following morning, you’ll drive the half hour south to catch the Bruny Island ferry and head to Inala, a retreat in southern Bruny. You can enjoy the retreat’s walking trails, possibly watch Wedge-tailed Eagles come down to settle, see the endangered 40-spotted Pardalotes plus Bennett’s Wallabies and Pademelons. In the evening, take a drive to Bruny Hotel for lunch and head up to the neck to see sunset. During the summer months, flocks of Short-tailed Shearwaters come in overhead. After dark, Little Penguins appear on the road side and you may even catch glimpse of an Eastern Quoll or Long-nosed Bandicoot. Dinner at the Bruny Hotel. Overnight at Inala.
Day 3 After breakfast, you’ll drive up to Adventure Bay, enjoy the stunning scenery and learn about Captain Cook and Bruny’s maritime history at the museum. From Bruny Island, you will join Pennicott Wilderness Journeys for a boat ride around southern Bruny to learn about the region’s wildlife, history and landscapes. You’ll seek out dolphins, Albatrosses and even whales (seasonal). On your return, you have plenty of time to explore, possibly take a drive to Bruny Island lighthouse for sunset. Overnight at Inala.
Day 4 Departing Inala, you have plenty of time to stop in at Bruny Island cheese for tasting and the local wineries before catching the ferry back to Kettering for the short drive to Hobart, where you can explore the docks and harbour before dinner and either drive or take the ferry to MONA. Overnight Salamanca Inn.
Day 5 This morning after breakfast, you will head to Cambridge Airport for your Par Avion tour to the south west wilderness. This flight takes you for a guided day tour into one of the world’s most remote wildernesses. There’s the chance to see Orange-bellied Parrots (seasonal). If birding’s not your thing, our guides will take you upriver into the wilderness where you’ll enjoy a feast of local produce. After a scenic flight home, you return back to Hobart. Overnight Salamanca Inn.
Day 6 After breakfast, you drive south down the beautiful Huon Valley to Franklin for your River to Rainforest day trip. Here you’ll Meet Tasmanian ship-builders carrying on centuries-old craft traditions; enjoy a sail on the Huon River’s glassy-calm waters; visit the cider bar, café and museum for lunch and cider tasting; and explore the rainforest and the world famous airwalk at Tahune. You’ll return to Hobart for your last night before heading north. Overnight, Salamanca Inn.
Day 7 This morning after breakfast, you’ll drive the 3.5 hours to Sheffield and lunch at Marakoopa Cafe before taking a guided walk in the limestone caves. Mid-afternoon, you head to Loongana. This retreat, nestled at the foothills of Black Bluff is very basic log cabin style accommodation with wood fires but it sits in stunning scenery. That evening, after dark, while you relax from a meal and bottle of wine, you’ll be able to watch wild Tasmanian Devils, Spot-tailed Quolls and other wildlife come right up to your porch. Before dark, you’ll be guided to see the resident Platypus and maybe even spot a local wombat. Overnight Mountain Valley.
Day 8 After breakfast, you’ll drive to the nearby Leven Canyon Gorge, an amazing wild river valley with several short walks. Then it’s back to exploring Loongana, with the possibility of a guided walk to see the glow worms in the limestone caves and a second opportunity to watch native wildlife. Overnight Mountain Valley.
Day 9 Leaving Loongana, it’s about a 2 hour drive to Launceston for your onward flight. Enroute, you can stop at the Tamar wetlands centre and do a Tamar Wine Tour.
