Wildiaries is a social-networking system that promotes wildlife experiences and has a particular focus on creating a connection between these experiences and tourism. Because supporting birding tourism is a major component of Bird-O’s mission, Wildiaries is a great tool for Bird-O to generate, manage and distribute content. Reports generated by Wildiaries raise more viewers than Bird-O pages alone – it’s already a great way to get recognised online.
So Bird-O utilises Wildiaries for Bird-O Online (http://birdo.wildiaries.com). Bird-O aims to provide really informative content, so we need a way to tell you all about a rarity, including how to find it, where to find it, what access is like etc. Wildiaries gives us a very simple way of doing this.
Here’s another example of a group that uses Wildiaries. The tour operators of Far North Queensland are linked together through this site: http://qld.tnq-birding.wildiaries.com. This way, we can send their information out widely, including to the local tourism associations.
You can also use Wildiaries FOR FREE, to put your trips directly onto Bird-O by visiting http://aussiebirding.wildiaries.com and signing up. Creating a trip is a simple as 1,2,3. Click “add trip”, give it a title, enter a location (you can re-use locations over and over again), then add an image, sightings and text. It really couldn’t be much simpler. Once you’ve published your report, it will appear in the ‘trip reports’ section. You can even customise your own pages.
If you are a group that’s interested in using Wildiaries, it’s simple to customise for you and feed the results into the Bird-O website. If you want to see your information on Bird-O, you can either contact us to publish your story, or you can create it yourself using the Aussie birding site or your own that we set up for you. Either way, being involved in Bird-O is going to help raise your profile and contribute to a richer all round experience for anyone interested (or potentially interested) in birds.
